Although I have had preceding experiences in receiving academic honors, this experience I had here today was and continues to be remembered as an "unprecedented" event. I think that is mainly because economics has never been within my range of interests before this particular event, but this single activity managed to elevate my interest in not only the subject of economics but also in all social sciences.
What intrigued me most during the process of studying for this program was the fact that the subject of Macroeconomics manages to encompass the logic of efficiency (basically the exact definition of "economic") with social manifestations such as laws, markets, and even things as trivial as plain everyday happenings. It also helped me wonder about areas in our society where morality dominates over economically rational decision-making.
I think that my thoughts on combining economic logic with what may seem like a subjective area like morality were the main factor for my acquisition of honors. I went beyond what was normally thought of in economics and expanded the extent to which things could be understood 'economically'. I hope to encounter more experiences where I could explore other subjects of study that I am not currently experienced with, like certain branches of science.
